Welcome to Zenergy's Health, Safety & Environment Newsletter
We've spent the last 12 months working double time to improving our internal systems and quality of work and hope that you like the new format of our website and newsletter. During 2011 we will be announcing some exciting firsts for Zenergy in 2011 so stay tuned to this space!
As for the market - The number of employment opportunities increased nationwide in 2010 as compared to 2009, with the growth in employment opportunities signalling that consumer confidence is back and our economy is kicking along quite well. The problem that most companies faced in 2010 was the lack of suitable candidates willing to change companies due to a lack of confidence in the market.
This year we are going to face the exact opposite....
Confidence in the market has come back, superannuation funds are clawing back to their pre GFC levels which means that 2011 will signal a strong increase in retiree's making 2011 the time to move out. Most companies are looking to increase overall headcount to cope with the increase in business so there is going to be a BIG change in the workforce this year. Most people have stayed in their role for longer than expected and will be looking at making a change in the next 12 – 18 months... but... with the Mining, Construction and Oil and Gas industries seeing strong growth again, and so much turnover in all industry sectors, finding the right person is going to be very critical as companies are going to struggle to retain, replace and bring in new staff without blowing their salary levels.
We hope that everyone has made it through the Christmas break safely; we look forward to meeting with you in 2011.
Regards,
The Team at Zenergy Recruitment

Comp claims increase as economy improves, researchers warn
An Australian study has found that workers' compensation "claims activity" tends to increase during an economic recovery, and not when times are tough, as is often believed.
The authors of the literature review, led by adjunct professor of workers' compensation at Curtin University of Technology, Robert Guthrie, say that in the wake of the GFC employers repositioning their workforce to take advantage of economic growth should avoid "unnecessary claims" by prioritising safety. |

Cheap retrofit could have saved apprentice's life: Coroner
The gruesome workplace death of an apprentice could have been averted had a host employer spent as little as $15,000 on retrofitting a "deplorably" unsafe machine, the South Australian Coroner has found.
Coroner Mark Johns also slammed SafeWork SA's sluggish response to the incident, and described it as a "matter of public concern" that the cost of acquiring new safe equipment often far outweighed the likely penalty in an OHS prosecution. |
